Oh, Look!! Something Shiny . . .

Ok, so I got a bit sidetracked from my World Series crocheted rug.  I was messing around on the Internet yesterday and came across this website called Simply Notable where she was demonstrating how to make a crocheted yarn bowl.  So while I was watching the game last night I made this ~

Now tonight there is no game, but I got lots and lots of strips all cut and ready to work on the rug tomorrow night for game 3!!

The World Series Starts Tonight!!

It is between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians!!  Yeah, yeah, who cares!!  But I have set myself a goal:  my crocheted rag rug is going to be as big as it is going to be at the end of the World Series!!  Hopefully we will have 7 games so I will have lots of time!!

Here is my progress:

Youch!!  Looking at these two pictures next to each other it sure doesn't seem like I have gotten very far, does it?  Right now it measures 26".  I am not sure how big it was on the first picture.

Holly, I am not sure it is going to be "6 foot or bust"!!  Funny, I was just whipping around the circle in the early rounds but now, it is taking longer and longer for each round!!  Really?

Workin', workin', workin' away!!

Post Season Baseball . . .

is upon us and I always love a good ball game.  The Los Angeles Dodgers are up against the Chicago Cubs for the privilage to play in the World Series and my brother's favorite team is the Dodgers, so we are really enjoying the games.  A little bit of trivia here (if you care) is that the Cubs have not won the World Series since 1908!!  Yikes!!  So we are sorta rooting for them too!!

But, I needed a good project that was mindless and that I could just sit and do for each game and I found the perfect solution:

I have been trying different methods to make a rag rug and I just have not found one I liked  . . . until now!  Using scraps, I am tearing strips that are about 1 inch wide, tying them together like this:

Purple and green strips
Make a small clip in each end of both the strips
Insert the purple strip into the slit of the green strip
Pull the purple strip all the way through until you are at the
far end of the purple strip
Like thus
Then pull the strips tight to make a knot,
making sure you don't pull so hard the fabric rips
Then, I am crocheting them into a circle with a huge hook and this is how it is coming along.  I am hoping to have a 6 foot rug, but ya know, each row keeps taking longer and longer and longer!!  Oh, well, I have to the end of the World Series!!  Yes!!
This one is totally scrappy but you could do a color scheme if you so desired!!

Life Has Been Crazy . . .

for me since mid-June when I bought the little house on the Oregon Coast.  Due to alot of ups and downs on the roller coaster of life, this particular ride ended a week or so ago and I am staying in Logan for now.

So, I have started getting caught up by unpacking everything that I had started packing and all the things I just threw into boxes so we could "stage" the Logan house to sell and all the stuff down in my studio that had to be moved out into the other rooms downstairs so we could get new carpet put in for the new buyer!!  Yikes, I am getting tired just writing about it!!

I did sit down last night and this morning though and got some past-due hand sewing done.  I finished the two June Hexagon Flowers for Krystyna in the United Kingdom.  It felt really good!!

I was on hiatus from the Swap from August through October, but now Debbie is putting me back on the list in November.  I am working on the row around each of the flowers I have received through the years (you can see the Flowers I have received HERE).

Going to Try Something New . . .

This afternoon I got a box of fabrics from mode and as we were pulling out each bolt, my brother said, "oh man, that one would make a gorgeous couch."

This is the one he was speaking of~

So, we discussed it and then heaeded over to the D.I. (Deseret Industries) to see if they had any couchs that might work well.  Why, yes, they did and for only $25.00!!

This is the couch we brought home ~

I like this one because of the basic shape and it was not a full-size couch, which would have been a bit large for our livingroom.  But it was also not a loveseat.

It needs back cushions and those pillows will go but I think it will work well.  I am going to quilt the fabric first with a meandering stitch to give it a bit more strength.

I'll keep you posted!!

Ashley Finished Her Sister's Quilt!!

Whoo!!  Hoo!!  About 2 years ago, my cute young neighbor Ashley came over and asked if I would teach her to quilt!!  I love it when these young girls want to carry on our wonderful tradition of quilting.

She was diligent in coming over every Saturday morning and learning the techniques and each of the steps until they moved to Michigan 8 months ago.  And that was with 2 young, young children!!
#3 is going to be here next month!!

Here is the culmination of the quilt she designed and pieced for her Sister's wedding gift!!

We unveiled it last night as she had not seen it since it had been quilted.  My friend Tammy quilted it for her and did a wonderful job!!

Sam, Ashley's husband was just amazed at how gorgeous it is!!

I had the ultimate privledge of binding it for her!!

Way to go, Ashley, you did a fantastic job!!
