My goal was to get all 28 blocks done by yesterday for our mid-month Quilt Guild meeting so I could put them up on the design wall and get the placement right before I starting sewing sashing on.
As we were putting the blocks up the regular way, Susan said they would be gorgeous on point!! And man, was she right!!
Now, these are 12 inch finished blocks. Would you guys chime in and let me know how wide you think the sashing should be? Is there a formula to use? Does it depend on how big the quilt needs to be? Is it personal preference? HELP!!

I don't know any "rules" about sashing width, but the two factors I work with are 1) How large do I want the quilt to be, and 2) does the width I have chosen create a good balance in the overall look of the quilt? I don't think there is a right or wrong, just a preference to meet your goals of size and appearance. I look forward to seeing what you end up doing. What color are you thinking for the sashing?
I find it amazing and entertaing that just turning a block on point can add so much movement to a quilt block / setting.

My personal preference would be to cut your sashing at 2-1/2" so it finished at 2". I would want to frame blocks so a 2" finished sashing would frame them. I have no idea what the finished size would be but it's your quilt, if you want more narrow sashing, that would be fine, wider sashing would be fine too. No matter what you decide, it will be lovely.
