Calling Out for Help on My Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap Collection

I have been collecting hexagon flowers in this swap for well over 2 years.  And even though I have not received flowers every month, I have accumulated quite a few - I would say 30-40.

Well, I have decided to start putting a lap quilt together and I saw one gal use a blue-green batik for her second round.  I loved the look and so got some of this gorgeous batik with blues, greens and a bit of purple in it ~

All of my flowers are dots of some sort with white centers.  You can see some of my flowers HERE.  Only the flowers with polka dots - all the others are flowers I have made and sent to others.

Here is my dilemma and would love some advise from anyone who has advise to offer!!  I am not sure what to do next.  Do I add a full second round around each flower making the batik a double width like so ~

Do I add another hexie, say in white, like the centers as a third border?

Or lastly, do I just have one batik round go around the flowers?

I would love suggestions and any other way you think these flowers would look fabulous snuggled into the batik rounds.

GIVEAWAY!!

I will use Mr. Random Picker to chose one comment to receive a yard of this gorgeous batik to say thank you for taking the time to offer up your help!!  I'll pick a winner on Sunday night so I can get a package out first of next week!!

Thank you one and all for your suggestions!!

It is really your preference. The first one would make your quilt rather small where as the white spacer round would give your more size. But I like the third - just cuz it pops more for me.

As I read the options my thinking was that it depended on what you liked best, how large you want the quilt, and how much work you want to put into it. But my preference is also the third shot.
Beautiful batik. I think I'm drooling! : )

Which do you like best? I like having two rounds on the flowers and then what is called the path around those two which would be finished like the last set of pics with one round after the batik fabric...this allows for a larger flower which in turn will make your quilt larger...I like all the options so I am sure whichever way you go it will be beautiful...the batik fabric really makes a statement and is stunning...can't wait to see which method you decide to use.

I LOVE the third option! Since the blue batik is pretty "strong" I think it would over-power the beauty of your flowers. The batik is beautiful and thanks for a chance to add it to my stash!

Kris typically a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt has a "path" that surrounds each hexagon flower. Choose a color you want for the path and use it throughout. I have also seen diamonds sewn as the path instead of hexagons. Here is the photo of the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt that my mom made the top for over 40 years ago and that I finally quilted and finished 2 years ago: http://patchouli-moon-studio.blogspot.com/2012/03/grandmothers-flower-garden-quilt.html
My mom used a solid pink for the garden path.

Good luck. Whatever you decide to do will look great with those batiks. However I wouldn't want the same blue batik as the path because it would be too much. You want your flowers to pop, so use a different fabric as your path.

To my eye, I like the third photo where you've integrated the blues to tie them together. Guess that satisfies my sense of balance.

It depends on the look you're going for. If you want a path around the flowers, I think the white is too strong against the blue. I would use a different color ... maybe a green to match the green in the batik? If you don't want a path around the flowers I like option three the best.

Whatever you decide, it will be beautiful when completed.
