Pirate Retreat . . .

I have not been to a retreat in over 12 years and I have been waiting for this one since last June!!  When I first got to Bandon and joined the Bandon Quilt Guild, I heard about the retreat that happened this past week.  I was told in June that I probably would not get to go for at least 2 years, maybe three.  BUT, about a month before the retreat several women could not go and YAY!!  I did!!

This year's theme was pirates and the committee for this retreat really goes ALL out!!

 This one was located as you walked into the bathroom!!

There were a couple of classes one could take but I chose to work on some of the many UFOs I have accumulated ~

This one was some 2 inch red and blue strips that I had cut oh maybe 5 years ago for what reason??  I have no idea.  So I added some white strips and did a strippity-do-dah quilt.  But because the strips were 2 inches instead of 2-1/2 inches the size was goofy.  The girls assured me that it would be a great quilt for a Vet over at the Roseburg VA Hospital.

This one was a charm pack and brown dot squares I had cut for a baby quilt oh maybe 5 years ago.  This one is going to be a baby quilt for our cute young neighbors who just had a baby girl a few weeks ago.

This one was some super ugly fabric that I bought on sale and then hated it, so I cut it up into 2-1/2 inch strips for a strippity-do-dah quilt.  Turned out better than I could have hoped.

I also got the binding machine sewn and partially hand-sewn on my Dad's 2007 90th birthday quilt.  I showed this quilt a long time ago on a post talking about how important it is to put labels on our quilts.  My sweet Dad was under this quilt when he passed through the veil.  What sweet memories of taking care of him as I finally bind this quilt and put a label on it.

March Lucy Boston Patches of the Cross Block Completed!!

This block is for Janet G.  She wants blocks that will go on a grey background!!  I think this one will!!

Goodbye Party for the Woolleys . . .

We had a lovely celebration of the year that the Woolleys spent with our little LDS Branch here in Bandon.   A lot of the Branch members showed up for a linger-longer with good food and good company.  We presented a memory book and a quilt to the Woolleys ~

The Woolleys will be very missed!!

What a Great Day!!

This afternoon we got to present the Quilt of Valor quilt that I have been working on these past weeks.  Don, our recipient is a Vietnam vet and he had tears in his eyes when he accepted the quilt.  Lots of folks showed up for the presentation and I think it was a great success.

This is the very reason I love to quilt!!

Quilt of Valor Quilt is at the Quilter's!!

Thank you to everyone who gave me their opinion about the blend star for the Quilt of Valor that I made.  

I listened and I made 6 new stars before I decided that the quilt was going to be way too large for a QOV lap quilt.  So, I used some of the blocks that were made for another QOV quilt and I added a few stars among the crosses and added a border.  

I am happy with how it turned out and it is up the coast right now at the quilter.  I hope to get it back next week and it will be presented to our Veteran on March 8.

February Patchwork of the Crosses Block . . .

It's always so fun to me to see how these blocks can turn out.  Carlene is my February swap recipient and she wanted a POTC block using 1930's fabric.  I thought, that one will be really hard to get a fun look.  But I searched through my stash and found some fabrics that turned out quite well ~

I posted a sneekie peek on FB and Carlene said she already loved it without seeing the whole block!! I'm telling ya, these blocks are so addicting!!  It went out in the mail to her today!!

It's Official!! Global Warming Has Now Ended . . .

and the onset of the ice age is upon us!!  Snow at the beach!!
