My First Week of School . . .

and what a week!!

School started Monday morning with a class on Folk Materials that meets three days a week.  Then, I gave blood down at the Student Center before my afternoon French class began.  The young man that I sat next to while waiting to give blood was in shock when I told him I was a student and not a techer!!  So cute!!

I take the bus to school and then walk and walk and walk to get to my classes.  By Wednesday night my legs and knees hurt so bad I could not sleep!!  Yiks!!  My mind keeps saying I am only 23 years old but my dang body keep reminding me I am 63!!

While on the bus and the wait between classes, I was able to get my August Hexagon Flowers for the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap done ~

Maggie wanted Civil War reproduction fabrics for the petals and cream or tan centers.  I thought these two flowers just hit the spot!!  Hope she enjoys them!!

I am loving both of my classes and I already have the French alphabet memorized!!  It's only the end of the first week and I am exhausted!!  :-))

I also got a quilt top completed for a pattern maker, testing it for errors in the instructions!!  Wow!!  That is a new experience and one that I think I am not too apt to do again!!  But it's done and it turned out real cute.  Can't show pictures cuz it isn't my quilt.

It's that time a year too for Quilt Guilds to start up after the summer hiatus and our Guild had it's organizational meeting Tuesday morning.  I am the new Blog Mommy this coming year!!  Do any of you belong to Guilds and do your Guilds have blogs??

Hope you all had as good of a week as I have had!!

Until tomorrow!!

My Part is Done!! Woo! Hoo!!

Some of you might remember a couple of months ago I was commissioned to do a queen-size wedding quilt.

Well, silly me thought I could quilt it on my new little sit down longarm but realized very quickly that I could hardly even handle just the top, let alone the top, batting and a back and then try to move it around in the little space I have to work in.

So, I got smart and asked my friend Sue over at Summit Creek Quilts if she would quilt it for me.  She did quilt it beautifully and then said she would love to barter the quilting if I would piece a king size quilt top for her.  Everything except the border and she would add the border.  How fast do you think I said yes!!  Oh, yeah!!

So, now I have my part done ~

I learned some really good lessons on this quilt top.  First, Sue wanted the borders, the bird blocks and the black blocks all fussy cut.  These diamonds each measure unfinished 19.5" x 11", so fussy cutting took quite a bit of extra fabric.  Then, I have never pieced on the diagonal.  And never tried to make sure the points matched on diamonds sewn together on the diagonal!!

I think the cutting took longer than the piecing and I must say I am happy to have my part done!!  Sue said as soon as she gets it quilted I can take pictures of the completed quilt and post them here - so stay tuned!!

Until next time!

Made in America!!

A few days ago I showed the patriotic quilt that I made for Becky's young Chinese visitor.  Well, she had another young Chinese college student staying with her this summer as well and Becky asked if I would make Hermoine's grandmother a quilt to send back with Hermoine to China.  Well, of course, I was thrilled!!

Now, this quilt is a lap quilt but it is tiny because Hermoine's grandmother is tiny!!

We gave Hermoine a choice of what fabric she wanted as binding because Becky wanted her to be part of the whole quilt experience.  Becky and I both liked the brown polka dot the best because it was so charming.  We were thrilled when Hermoine liked the brown polka dot too - but the reason she wanted it was because it would not get dirty so quickly!!  :-))

When Becky gave me the words for the label, I asked her who He Wenjun was and she told me that was Hermoine's Chinese name and that Hermoine was her American name.  I asked Hermoine how she came to choose Hermoine and she logically informed me that it was because she loved the Harry Potter books!!  Well, of course!!

And then she so sweetly ran into her bedroom and came out to present me with some real, authentic Chinese chopsticks in this beautiful box!!

Aren't quilts wonderful!!
