I Know I am Rushing the Season . .

but it is scary how soon it will be Halloween!!  Does anyone else think that the time is just flying by, faster and faster each week??

Well, Deb Strain came out with a darling new collection called Moonlight Manor and I just couldn't resist . . .

It turned out so cute and I used a fun varigated King Tut thread from Superior Threads on the front and a bright green on the back!!

I just hope Halloween doesn't come too soon!!

Slow Sunday Stitchin'

Well, I was happily surprised at how far I got this afternoon on stitching together my first Lucy Boston block!!

And Janet and Liz, I think you need to get on board with these tiny little block pieces - they are right up your alleys!!  :-))

Decisions, Decisions!!

I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, or maybe that was my excuse to sit and work on my first Lucy Boston block.  I'm pretty happy with my first try but now I have a decision to make ~

Which way to set the pieces.  It took seeing them side by side to make that decision and I think I have decided I like the cream up next to the blue with the red dots on the outside corners - what is NOT what I was orignially thinking when I chose these fabrics.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Oh No!! A New Addiction!!

On my Pinterest account I started seeing all these pins for these incredible blocks from the Lucy Boston  Patchwork of the Crosses quilt ~

They were pins from all different quilters fussy cutting these gorgeous blocks.  I found that the ones I was really drawn to were from Jan who blogs over at Sow and Sew Farms.  Not only did I love her Lucy Boston blocks but her blog was so much fun that I put it on my sidebar and started following her.

Well, I have been looking long enough and finally broke down and checked on Etsy to see if anyone was selling the papers and the template.  I found them at Featherweight Quilt Co. ~

And low and behold, I put two and two together and realized that I had purchased the papers and template from Jan, the same gal whose work and blog I just loved!!

So, now I am off to see if I can fussy cut some of these great blocks!!  Are any of you working on the Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses blocks?  If so, tell me where you have posted them and I will add them to my Pinterest!!

Flowers for Australia . .

Alana down in Victoria, Australia is my swap partner in the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap and she wanted Flowers that were colors of the ocean so here is what I made for her ~

They turned out so cute!!  I would love to see her quilt - I'll bet it is stunning!!

I'd Like to Introduce Joy . . .

the creator of this magnifient piece of quilt art.

I met Joy a couple of years ago right here on my blog.  If I recall, she left a comment and after I responded to her comment, we became friends.  Here is a bit about her in her own words and how she came about making this beautiful chair ~

We started with a rag doll project and it was only the beginning for me. Through my high school years I sewed mostly clothes until my roommate in college introduced me quilting. But in terms of designing, my path changed when I participated in a round robin project in 2007. This forced me to get out of my comfort zone in color and pattern. It was so difficult breaking old habits but painfully liberating at the same time.
My grandmother taught my sister and me how to sew when we were 10 and 14 years old. 
I got the idea of doing the chair from one of the quilting magazines. It featured an article of a woman who took old chairs and recovered them with quilting designs. She would focus her design on a theme, one was Asian, and another was a starry night. I found it very interesting. I had mentioned the idea to a coworker. Years later, when his family was emptying his grandmother's house, he called me and asked if I would like this old chair for my project. And off I went............
I started with muslin and made a template, draping/ fitting the fabric over sections of the chair. Arms, back, sides, seat, etc. Then designed each piece separately.
I think the hardest part is thinking 3 D. The balance of color is skewed, it is not flat like a quilt or a wall hanging. It was hard to envision the placement of color. And most importantly, after it is upholstered you cannot change your mind and rip it out. It is done.
Valerie Reynolds did the quilting and Louise did the upholstery.

Sunday Afternoon Drive . . .

The local Iris Society had their tour this weekend and so a friend and I went to for drive this afternoon to look at some of the gardens ~ For a closer look, click on the first picture and go through the pictures full-frame!!  Gorgeous!!
