East Window Works Too!

I have always been told that you need to put African Violets in a northern window so that they will bloom.  Well, I have no northern window where I can put any plants, so I put this gorgeous violet that a friend gave me a slip of several months ago in my office window that faces east.

Plus, there is no drainage in this pot!!  Love it!!

So pretty, Kris. I think East works fine. I do have mine in a North facing window--and some in my loft under the cupola windows. Both do well. I think the main think is to give them light, without the glaring heat of the West and South exposures. If you want any more I have a bunch of starts ready for transplanting. But come to think of it, probably not the best idea with an impending move. : )

Mine are in a south facing window, but one with very wide eaves and little direct sunlight. They bloom in cycles year round. It also helps to "rough them up" every so often--pulling off spent blossoms and old leaves. I guess it encourages them to do their best.

Well, it just loves the conditions it's 'forced' to live with! ;). It's gorgeous!

My mother always had her violets in a west window and they did just fine.

My African violet of 3 years being gifted it sits on my kitchen bench, under the window which faces south. It is "blooming beautiful" mind you hubby waters it and lavishes it with care so... He has also stuck two leaves in the soil to see what happens. They haven't died yet so maybe two new plants. Love the colour of yours
