Graduation Time!!

The cute young gal, Maren, that I made this quilt for last year ~

graduated from high school this week and so I decided to make her a Journal using fabric from her quilt ~

I used the same fabric that we backed the quilt in.

Then I added this darling little "Hand Made" sticker that I purchased from a darling girl up in Canada!!

My Pollie Dog is a Fashion Model and GIVEAWAY!!

I said I would I would NEVER get on Facebook but I recently did, so I could add a business page for my Etsy shop, Lavender Quilts and Other Fineries.  Well, I am so glad I did because one of the gals, Alisann, in a Treasury group I am in on Etsy, had a contest for her to draw a picture of our dog.  You can see her fun work HERE.  Well, Pollie did not win the contest but she got an honorable mention and is going to be in a coloring book!!

Here is the picture of Pollie that Alisann drew her picture from ~

Is that so fun or what!!  The coloring book comes out in June and Pollie is getting a copy!!  So, Pollie thought that since she just won a fun prize, she would Pay It Forward and have a GIVEAWAY of her own!!

Here's how to play:

1.  Visit my Etsy shop here:  Lavender Quilts and "Like" my shop in the upper right corner.

2.  "Favorite" the shop and three items that you would love to own.

3.  Tell me in your comment that you have done 1 and 2 and tell me what you would buy if you had a $25.00 Gift Certificate to my shop.

I will be giving away THREE $25.00 prizes on June 6th!!

BONUS POINTS - if you would like to make a purchase, go to the shop and send me a convo (email) telling me what you would like to purchase.  I will set up a Special Order for you with reduced shipping and handling and a Coupon Code with a 20% discount at checkout.  For each $10.00 (before the discount) spent, you will get one additional chance to win one of the three $25.00 Gift Certificates!!

Hope you have fun with Pollie's giveaway!!

A Fun Suprise Birthday Gift!!

Each summer I invite 3-4 middle school aged girls to come down to my studio and learn to sew and to make a small quilt.  We usually do a vanishing 9-patch, making 4 blocks, creating a perfect size wall hanging.  We start with the basics of fabric selection, cutting, sewing and actually quilting their own quilts on my Tierra quilting machine and then learning how to properly put on a binding and a label.

Well, two summers ago, Marissa was one of the young women who came to learn to quilt.  Once the classes were over, she never got back to finishing her quilt.  So, her Mom and a dear neighbor took Marissa's 4 blocks, added more and finished a large lap quilt for her.

This week I have been quilting it and putting the binding on.  Marissa's birthday is June 1 and she will be sweet sixteen!!  She has NO idea she is getting this quilt!!  How fun is that!!

The Top for My Guild Row-A-Long Quilt . . .

is complete!!

A Kaffe Kollaborative

In the style of Kaffe Fassett, I would typically never put borders between the colorful rows of blocks but because this was a collaborative effort by seven different quilters, I wanted to separate each work so each stood alone and could be appreciated as an individual piece of art.  I chose a speckled batik so the weight of the border would not overwhelm the finer touch of the Kaffe.

I am not sure how I am going to quilt it but I have something in mind and I hope it works out as planned!!

Tomorrow night is the grand finale at guild and we are all supposed to have our Row-A-Long quilts complete.  I am lucky I got the top completed!!  I'll take pictures and share!!
