Saturday Progress . .

Well, I got a lot done on Saturday!!  I got the brains of the operation in place!!

I decided after Sandie's comment about the lighter color's name being Ocean DREAMS, I would use it and now I am soooooooooo glad - because the darker color would have just been too dark!! I went with a semi-gloss since the room is going to be used a lot and so now I get lots of shine.

Thanks, Sandie!!

I can't show you the rest of the Studio because it now looks like my livingroom used to look!!  BUT now, I have a living room looking living room!!  Well, except for those awful valances and 1970s carpet that need to be changed out one of these days.

Thanks everyone for coming on this new journey with me!!

I Live Alone . . .

and I am a creative person (well, at least I think so - LOL!!) and I am super messy!!

These are pictures of my living room!!  Now, normally I am okay with the messes I make because I am a creative kind of gal!!  But, since I have been working, my messes linger longer and its starting to bug the heck out of me.

Now, I see some of the beautifully appointed sewing rooms and studios of my fellow bloggers and I can just say, "Wow, how can they keep their space so neat and tidy?"

Plus, when I get visitors, I always have to say as they walk in the front door, "Sorry about the mess!!"  So, I decided to make a change.  My little house has 2 bedrooms, one small and one not so small.  Up until now, the bedroom was the larger of the rooms and I have decided to switch them out and put my sewing room in the larger bedroom!!

Here are the beginning transformations~

The wallpaper was some of that wonderful embossed, shiny paper from the 1970s!!

That was not pre-pasted, but instead required the hanger to paint the wall with wallpaper paste first!!

And the carpet was this ugly blue-green 1970s sculpted carpet that was covering these gorgeous hard wood floors!!  Now that is another story - the previous owners used deck screws to screw the boards down to keep them from squeeking, I guess.  Anyway, yiks!!

Then when looking for a new color for the walls, I did some research on color therapy and found that blue was the color for creativity.  Remember above how I told you I was a creative person??  Well, now, blue must certainly be the color for the walls of a room to foster my creativity, right??

So, I am trying to decide - the the middle color which is periwinkle blue - my fave!!  Or the lighter blue  that is probably a better choice!!  What do you think, periwinkle blue or Ocean Dream??

Stay tuned for updates!!

Saturday's Smile!!

A soldier found an unconscious squirrel in the forest and  took it to his headquarters.  Three months later the soldier was discharged, and started working as a taxi driver.  Since then, wherever he goes, the squirrel is at his side.

Pieced with Lessons Learned!!

I have really not made many large quilts - most of mine are lap size or smaller.  But I had the opportunity to piece this top for a firned ~

And I learned some very important lessons.

First, I learned why a design wall is so important - this top has 48 different blocks (each 12") in 4 colors - red, green, gold and blue.  Which is great but there were many more blues than the other three colors.  Same thing with the sashing strips - LOTS more blue that the other colors.  Well, I did 3 rows at a time making sure

that each block had a different color side.  Well, by the time I got to the last three rows I had mostly blue blocks and blue sides!!  Yiks!!

Second, I learned how to rip-it, rip-it, rip-it!!  And in the end after moving rows around and blocks around and sashings around, it just didn't matter!!  There were still more blues than the other colors!!

Third, on a scrappy quilt - don't sweat the small stuff, it will be wonderful regardless!!

Yay!!  Another UFO has found a home.  My friend is going to put a border or two on it and use it in one of her guest bedrooms!!  Love it!!

Fourth, enjoy the compliments of a job well done!!  Knowing what I had put myself through, here is what my friend said:  "Hey!  The quilt looks pretty great as it is!!!  Thanks a bunch!"
Enjoy this gorgeous almost-spring-day!!

The Raspberry Rabbits

Today was my day off and I am still reeling on these days since I started working!!  So, I decided to spend the afternoon doing some hand stitching and I decided to work on one of Shell's, over The Raspberry Rabbits, darling Folk Art Fusion pieces.  Everytime I visit her blog and she has another new piece posted, I just drool and think, I wish I was clever enough to make one of those!!

Well, I found out this afternoon that I am!!

This is just one of her smaller pieces but it has given me the confidence to work on one of her larger pieces.  Go check her blog out today as she is in the 11th week of Fellowship of the Flowers!!  The table topper she has done is fabulous!!

Also, I decided that I would like to offer her book at 50% discount in my Etsy shop.  If you love Shell and love her work, click on the picture below to take you to my Etsy shop and get a signed copy of her Fabled Fusions book for half price!!  I'll even throw in the kit to make this cute little flower pin!!  You just can't go wrong!!

I made that little flower!!  Wow!!

A Really Fun Finish!!

Last October this cute family commisioned me to make 5 lap quilts for the Mom and Dad and three kids.  I delivered the first one to them tonight!!

As many of you know, life has really gotten in the way of my quilt-making but now that the first one is done, I am ready!!  And then this picture of the two boys really motivates me to finish the other 4!!

These two sweeties are my honorary grandsons!!  Pretty lucky, aren't I!!
