I'm Home and Boy, Can I NOT Count!!

I got home last night and on Friday I wrote that I was going to have a very special giveaway because I was so close to an amazing 20,000 visits.  Well, hello, I am still almost a 1,000 visits away.  Gosh, doesn't 20,000 come right directly after 19,000?  NOT!!

So, since I promised a very special giveaway, I am going to start it right now even though I am a little slow on up-take!!  :-))

This quilt is a gorgeous quilt that was made in 1968 and the top is not only all made from wool but all of the crazy quilt borders and embroidery are all done by hand.  I am not 100% sure but I would imagine that the entire top was hand pieced as well!!  Also, this is not a family heirloom.  I do not know who made it.  My cousin knows I quilt and she saw it and thought I would like it - which I do but . . .

The back is made from a cottony- satiny striped fabric.  And folded over as the binding.  Then the binding has been hand-stitched with a feather stitch over it.

There is one little hole - see picture below but other than that this quilt is in wonderful condition.

Why am I giving it away, you ask??  Even though it is a gorgeous piece of hand work, the colors are just too dark for me and I have kept it folded up in a drawer for the past several years.  So, I thought, I am being very selfish and not sharing this wonderful quilt with the world!!  I think this heirloom needs to belong to someone who really would appreciate it and display it or use it.

I am just asking one thing - please only leave a comment for a chance at this quilt if you REALLY, REALLY want to own it or know someone you can give it to who would REALLY, REALLY like to own it!!

I will be sharing this quilt with one of you on August 15th!!

I'm with Anonymous - even though you can't count, you have a wonderful heart. I also would love the quilt - it's so evident much love went into that quilt. Look at all the details that were lovingly stitched everywhere. I'd be so blessed to have that lovely quilt at my home. I'd welcome it with open arms. Thank you for your generosity. There's going to be a happy, happy person when the winner is announced.

This quilt reminds me of my first quilted wall hanging. I made it all by hand and did similar hand quilting. Mine was more of a zigzag and not a feather stitch. I would love to snuggle under this hand crafted with love quilt. I would display it in my craft room along side my kitty wall hanging. I do not own any old quilts and would love this to be my first! Great giveaway and I will make sure to click back and view your blog a few more times to help the 1000 go by quicker!

Hi! I would like to win this quilt so I can give it to my older sister who has taught me everything I know so far about quilting. In our family we never had any quilters except for my sister so we have none of these family treasure heirlooms. I would give it to her because she works in a quilt store where they have on display quilts like this treasure that were made with left over clothing and were sewn with love by some one. The oldest crazy patch style quilt they have is from the 30's and in satins and the batting on the inside is old t shirts and such. My sister would love it she often rescues quilts that people dont appreciate. Like this beautiful 4 patch that is very tread bare but at a yard sale the lady was using it for a rug. My sister said to the lady how much and she got it for $2. The quilt is beautiful and it wold have deserving home with my sister here in Victoria. Thank you a chance to win!

The backing looks like an institutional sheet (mental hospital, nursing home, etc) from the 60s. I would love to redo that and I know my local senior center would just love it for their reading corner. VermontPines@aol.com

I love the quilt. It does look like it is great condition. would love to have it visit my house. I have several antique quilts and love them. It can be fun to make up stories of the why and how they were made.

Wow--you are an amazing gift giver! I would like this quilt, because it reminds of the quilts my maternal grandmother made. I don't have any, but my aunt once showed me one my Grandma Nellie made. Up to that point, I never knew she quilted. I guess the only kind she made were wool crazy quilts. It would be well loved at my home.

I love it, love dark, love crazy quilts and since I am a newbie, I don't have that many quilts to hang, just some old ugly ones, lol. That would be beautiful on the ladder my husband made me, I have two crazies I made on it now, so would be wonderful to have an older one to go with them.

You don't know me and wouldn't have a clue as to why this quilt would mean so much to me. Short version, my mother's crazy quilt disappeared after she passed, it was supposed to be mine. My Aunt gave me a crazy quilt that my husband grandmother made, it too disappeared and all of the family knew it was to come to me. I was heartbroken over both losses. Although this is not from my family, it would be from you and that would just be the beginning of the quilt history that I would make sure followed this quilt. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity to win this beautiful piece of art. I have a loft room with triple railing and there just happens to be an empty spot that this quilt would fit perfectly into. Thank you again.:)

I was born in 1968 myself, and am in relatively good condition and some people even allow me to be on display. Seriously, I would certainly find a place for that quilt in my home and my life. Thanks for the chance.

this quilt is fantastic and brings back memories! my granny taught me to embroider on wool crazy quilt blocks. she was a tailor and had a crazy quilt made from wool suiting fabric scraps.

What a lovely quilt. I would love a chance to enter. I have just started quilting so I may not be as deserving as some.

Those embroidered flowers are really pretty. I live in an old farmhouse and this wool quilt would fit right in! We have no heat upstairs, so this would be draped over the end of the bed to warm someone!

Absolutely beautiful quilt! I would love to give this quilt a loving home. The colors and the wool remind me of the quilts my great grandmother made and are still in use on the beds at my grandparents. As a kid, I always felt a connection to the great grandmother I didn't know well when I slept under one of her quilts. My great grandmother hand pieced her quilts from my great grandfather's worn out wool work shirts. She then hand quilted them with perfectly even stitches. Ahh....memories.

The quilt you are sharing is as old as I am--both of us were born in 1968. It would be a cool quilt to share with visitors and be able to say, it is as old as I am.

I hope I'm picked, but if not, who ever is, will have an absolute treasure.

Yours in quilting~~Shantelle, Heber City, Utah

What a kind and generous act! It looks just wonderful, I have always loved crazy quilts although I have never attempted one- my embroidery attempts leave a lot to be desired, but I can only guess at the hours some lady spent doing all the feather stitches and the lovely flowers, it really is a treasure. Thanks for the chance to win it. Sandy.

You are so kind to do this giveaway. My mom had one of these, but she lost it in a flood. She has since passed, but this CQ reminds me of hers.
Thank you for the opportunity
to win it!

wow! beautiful crazy quilt. Would love to have this to give to my little sister. She was born in 1968. This will be her 3rd year teaching JR high math . She has just bought a very small house and is working hard on landscaping. Her bedroom is so empty. This would look lovely in it, and would surely be cherished.

Thanks for the chance to win! Good luck to all!
